I met Malin Carper when she had a guest spot at Lifestyle Tattoo Södermalm. She is a funny and easy going metalhead, works in Örebro but can usually be found lurking around tattoo conventions around the world.
How long have you been a tattoo artist? And how did you get started?
I’ve been a tattoo artists for since the summer of 2010. I was an apprentice for a guy called Nicke Borg (not the lead singer of Backyard Babies) in Arboga. He worked in a studio in Köping called Galleri 19 but he taught me at his home cuz he just had a baby. I was there every night after school (gymnasiet) 2008. Then when I graduated I opened my own shop 2010 in Arboga and Nicke helped me for the first summer. I ran it for two and a half years and then I moved to Örebro where I’m now working at Elite Artwork since 2013.
Do you have a special style of tattoos that you like too do?
I like realistic the style the most, for now at least.
What is your best memory from working as a tattoo artist?
Hm… Maybe when I won the prize for this years newcomer for opening the first and only tattoo studio in Arboga. And many more awesome memories ! Like the first prize ever won at a tattoo convention.
What’s your worst?
Haha I have a lot of weird stories I’m afraid ! Maybe when I had this spanish couple living their sexual fantasy. She was groaning loudly and he was standing in front of her, patting her head and said ”yes, oh yes baby yes” It lasted for 3 hours ….. And I worked alone in my own shop..
What was the last gift you gave someone?
Last gift? For no reason and not a Christmas or anything? I think it was a book for my cousin actually.
Is there a difference between the tattoo community in Sweden and in the rest of the world?
Hm, I haven’t been everywhere yet so I don’t know really. But I think it’s not where you are it is what type of people you meet.
Do you have any favorite tattoo convention in Sweden?
Hm, I haven’t worked there yet but I really like Tattoo Meltdown. Otherwise Tattoo Mess in Örebro.
Do you have any tattooers that you look up too?
Absolutely, a lot! Nikko Hurtado, Paul Acker, Lianne Moule, Thomas Carli Jarlier, Steve Butcher and more!
A gorilla walks through that door right now wearing a sombrero. What does he say and why is he here?
Where is the party??! (Cuz he is all in to tequila)
And finally are there any Swedish tattoo artist you would like me too interview?
I would like Jacob Pedersen at Crooked Moon
Thank you Malin for being apart of Swedish tattoo society!
